Income Tax Calculator - Australia
Estimate your income tax, Medicare levy and refund position for the year, and see exactly which bracket each dollar falls into. Australia taxes income in slices - moving into a higher bracket only ever taxes the dollars above that threshold, never your whole income.

Frequently asked questions
Does earning more ever leave me worse off?
No. Only the dollars above a threshold are taxed at the higher rate, so an extra dollar of income never reduces your take-home pay. The bracket table shows this directly. The one place a genuine cliff exists is the Medicare levy surcharge, where crossing a threshold applies the surcharge to your whole income.
What is the difference between my marginal and effective rate?
The marginal rate is what the next dollar is taxed at; the effective rate is total tax divided by taxable income. On $100,000 in 2026-27 the marginal rate is 32% including Medicare, while the effective rate is about 22.5% - the gap is the tax-free threshold and lower brackets underneath.
